Senior high school is a secondary school that students attend in the three or four highest grades before college. A high school where someone is a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades is an example of a senior high school.
The English curriculum in senior school is expanded and developed for students to understand varieties of prose, poetry, drama, and non-fiction texts. Students are encouraged to read a wide variety of books to expand their horizon. To progress their learning, specific skills such as spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax are taught. At this stage, students are required to learn to put their thoughts in written form through the proper use of grammar, punctuation etc.
Although definitions vary, the senior secondary years are sometimes defined as being from approximately age 15 to age 18. The term generally includes eleventh grade and twelfth grade, and may sometimes also include tenth grade.
In middle & high school, science is taught keeping the scientific methodology in mind, wherein students predict, investigate and make conclusions for the situations given to them. This inculcates an inquiry-based mindset in students. A lot of emphasis is laid on practical experiences and experimentation to help children understand the facts and apply these to real-world situations.
The Math Curriculum has been developed to train the students in problem-solving, logical reasoning and analytical skills. It is also designed to be taught in such a way that students should be able to make connections to the outside world and to other subjects. A lot of students develop an aversion to Math for the way it has been taught traditionally. Through the use of models and ICT to supplement classroom teaching, a positive attitude can be developed towards the subject.
The role of learning computer science in this age of advanced communications and technology cannot be undermined.
